Cambridge University Recitals
Joy was invited by Ewan Campbell, Director of Studies in Music at Churchill College and Murray Edwards College, to give a series of guzheng recitals at both colleges. Her programmes introduced traditional and contemporary guzheng music, including her own compositions, to new audiences in Cambridge. Murray Edwards College subsequently published an artist feature exploring Joy’s musical journey, the relationship between music and wellbeing, and her original composition, Echoes of Spring.
Following the recital, Joy discussed her original compositions with Dr Ewan Campbell, exploring approaches to combining the guzheng with Western instruments. Their exchange considered how Chinese and Western musical traditions can inform contemporary composition and cross-cultural collaboration.
